2016 update

It’s been a long, long time since we have sent out an update on all that has been going on with Create, so I am going to do my best to update you on what we have been up to so far this year.

The first term was an excellent one for the new team, they have settled in well working with the youth groups and in schools. In the last term we have been running CU’s in Westfield, Preston, Stanchester, Bucklers, College and The Park, all in partnership with other local youth workers and they are all going really well. We are mentoring 6 bands in Westfield Rock Academy during lunchtimes, as well as having set up and started Rock Academy down at The Gateway after school on Thursdays. The team have been going out on detached work in Preston school on Tuesday lunchtimes and building great relationships with the young people there.

We have also been doing the Friday night youth groups, mentoring young people and more…

In December we had an amazing fundraiser evening at The Gateway doing Stars In Their Eyes where we got members of YCC to perform as their favourite stars, and we had an awesome time. Thank you to everyone who came along and was part of it! We will be planning more fundraisers in the coming term to cover the general Create costs as well as specific offerings to go towards our trip to France in May.

Also in December we did ‘All I Want For Christmas Is…’ in partnership with the local churches in the town where we met peoples practical needs at Christmas. We finished off the project with a huge carol concert in the Quedam which was an amazing time getting people together, and where we got to see the impact the project had made on so many people’s lives which was awesome.

We are excited to be starting a couple of new events this term. ‘Creative Academy’ is a workshop for young people to help them to express themselves, encounter God and to grow in creative gifts. This will be monthly on a Tuesday after school for 11 – 18 year olds, starting on the 9th February at 4.30pm. We are also going to be setting up a drop-in group for unchurched 15 – 18 year olds soon.

Alongside all of this we have been working on how we are creative as a team. We have formed a band within the team and have been going out and leading worship at a few events, and we are excited to be doing more of this in the coming weeks and months, including a trip to France in May. We are going to be going to France as a whole team to play music, worship with others, get creative, be inspired and meet a number of churches over there. Earlier this month we recorded our first Live track as the Create band which you can see in the video below.

In half term we are planning on taking some young people to a SWYM camp called Geek Factory which is for young people with a passion for gaming and this should be an excellent few days where they get to explore faith in a context that they love.

Finally we had a fantastic evening with our hosts and mentors last week, having dinner together and thanking them for all they do for us. Thank you to everyone who supports us, prays for the team and is invested in what we are up to. We are excited for this year and all God has in store for us and the young people we are working with.
