This year has started off really well, for me it is the 2nd year of leading the Create team and although I was in the role when it was Urban Warriors for 3 years, I still feel like I am learning more everyday.
This year’s team are really strong, they are a very creative bunch and bring a lot of ideas and laughter into the office everyday.
We have achieved a lot in the first half term already, some of the exciting highlights have been taking out the musicians on the team with me to lead worship at some different events, most recently TAG – a young leaders conference in Exeter where some of the team led the different sessions, which was really great to be a part of. We have been running youth groups, mentoring young people, doing detached work in schools, running CUs and a worship academy for young people aged 11 – 18’s.
Each week we are coming into contact with hundreds of young people and the team have been getting stuck in, building relationships and doing a great job. The team have been busy making videos and resources for youth groups as well as working on a big video for Yeovil Community Church all together services on thankfulness.
After half term we are excited to be starting up rock academy in Westfield Academy again on Thursday lunchtimes and at The GateWay after school on Thursdays. We are involved in running a town wide event called ‘All I Want For Christmas Is…’ where we are getting together volunteers from churches across the town to meet as many peoples practical needs in the community for a week and finishing with a carol concert in the centre of town. Also we are working on producing a Christmas EP of a few tracks available soon. Lots going on!
I’m really pleased with how this year has started off, I’m excited to see how the team members all grow and develop as individuals and as a collective team together. It’s going to be a good year!
